Chartered March 31, 1989

The Rotary Club of Wylie East Fork began as an idea in 1987. Chuck Trimble, a charter member of the Plano Metro Rotary Club, worked Plano prior to starting a firm in Wylie.  He decided the drive was too long to the Plano Metro Club and asked the district for help.  A fellow Rotarian from the Plano Rotary Club, Chuck Croissant, and Chuck Trimble began the mission of starting a club in Wylie.

The Farmersville Rotary Club agreed to sponsor the Wylie club. Bob Tedford and Mont Hendricks, members of the Farmersville club, committed to meet with the Wylie club weekly until the official chartering on March 31, 1989. The Club's first president was Chuck Trimble. Initially the club met at a favorite Wylie restaurant, Maria's, which was owned by Charter member Robert Arden. The meetings were Thursday mornings at 7:30 am. In 1990, it found a home meeting in the fellowship hall at the First Baptist Church in Wylie.  Years later the Wylie club moved to the Woodbridge Golf Club, changing the meeting time to noon on Thursday.  After a natural disaster, the club briefly moved meetings to Napoli's Wylie and now meets at the Landon Winery in historic downtown Wylie.

The Rotary Club of Wylie East Fork is a generous club that supports the youth of Wylie is very many ways.  Since inception, college scholarships are given each year to Wylie students heading to college.  A fully funded annuity with the Wylie ISD Education Foundation provides grants for teachers to help those heroes educate.  Sponsoring local students to Camp RYLA every year is an important tradition. The club has been very successful in the selection of students receiving this award. For many years, the club has sent six students to Camp RYLA and campers return to the club again and again to rejoice about the life-changing experiences they have!  Girls State and Boys State programs through the American Legion are another resource for building Wylie youth into future leaders.

The club continues to be active in many local projects through the years such as painting and repairing elderly people's homes in Wylie, sponsoring the annual children's pedal car races, donating thousands of dollars to four local food banks, constructing and maintaining playgrounds at local parks, and international exchange programs with local students. Members are constantly on the lookout for opportunities to help those in need.

The club is probably best known for its good fellowship at the meetings, our flag program, the Wheel of Misfortune as a fun way to correct infractions of the members, and our 50/50 pot that supports our scholarship program.. The Rotary Club of Wylie has become a fixture in Wylie with its members involved in all levels of community leadership.
